In February 2009 Deloitte announced the results of its analysis Football Money League. This is the twelfth year of the publication, profiling the largest clubs in terms of revenues in the world’s most popular sport. The Deloitte Football Money League is the most contemporary and reliable analysis of clubs’ relative financial performance and is released less than nine months after the end of last season, as soon as all the clubs’ revenue figures are available to us. For the purposes of this publication, Deloitte looks at the best publicly available measure of financial comparison: revenue from day to day football business operations.

Real Madrid retain top position in the Money League for a fourth successive year with revenues of €366m. The top three positions remain unchanged with Manchester United in second place with €325m and FC Barcelona in third place with €309m.

Almost all Money League clubs have shown revenue growth in this year's Money League, which covers the 2007/08 season. The impact of the exchange rate has impacted on the number of English clubs in this year's list although the Premier League is represented by 7 clubs in the top 20 – Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City.
